Remembrance Day – November 11, 2018

The Band performed for Remembrance Day services at the following locations. On Friday, November 9, 2018 Band members assembled at King George School in Kenora for the early service at 9:15 a.m. Later, Kenora Scottish Pipe Major played at the St. Louis School in Keewatin and the rest of the Band went to Beaver Brae Secondary School for the 10:30 a.m. service.

On Sunday November 11, 2018, Kenora Scottish Pipe Major played pipes for the Keewatin Legion Community Service held at St. Louis School and Piper Bob Stewart performed for the Kenora Legion Service.

In the afternoon, led by Quartermaster Cathy Giroux, some band members along with local residents went to the cemetery and laid flags on the headstones of the veterans.

The “Bells of Peace” were rung at sunset throughout town and at the Kenora Legion at 4:40 p.m. in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Armistice. This concept was modelled on the spontaneous ringing of church bells throughout England when peace was announced. The bells tolled 100 times at 5 second intervals at sunset. The Band played “Amazing Grace” after the bells were done and then followed this with a performance for the assembled crowd.
