Kenora Scottish Pipes & Drums Summer Concert – June 10, 2017

The Kenora Scottish Band held its “Summer Concert” on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Knox United Church, Kenora, Ontario at 7:00 p.m. Kenora Scottish Pipe-Major did double duty as Pipe-Major and Master of Ceremonies. The Band played a number of standard sets, as well as a couple of new sets learned over the last several months, specifically for this concert. Interspersed with the Band sets, each piper performed at least one solo piece, including Macy Forster’s debut on the practice chanter playing the scale and “Happy Birthday” with her dad.

The drummers were also featured as the Drum Corps performed the “Husky Drum Salute” (an original composition). In addition, Liam Forster performed his competition solo on the snare drum and Theo Kuntz entertained the crowd with his solo on the bass drum.

Band Pipe-Major played a set of airs on the Scottish Whistle that brought many a tear to the eyes of the audience. There was also a solo performance by Pipe-Sergeant Cecil Burns on kitchen pipes (small pipes). A “Kenora Kitchen Party” atmosphere also prevailed where the audience was encouraged to participate with noise makers and spoons while drummers played Bodhrans, Ugly Sticks and a variety of other noise makers.

Following the door prize draw of a large gift basket, the audience was asked to join the Band members downstairs for a “Meet & Greet” to share coffee, tea and dainties prepared by the Band members and their spouses. The event was well attended and there were many congratulations to the Band for their performance. Terrific job everyone!
