Kenora 774/645 Cadet Mess Dinner – December 19, 2023

Kenora 774/645 Cadet Mess Dinner, December 19, 2023

Members of the Kenora Scottish Pipes and Drums were in attendance at the Cadet Christmas Mess Dinner held at the Private David Kejick DCM Armoury on December 19, 2023. The dinner was hosted by the Cadet League and members of the Kenora Scottish were invited to attend in recognition of our affiliation with the Armoury. Amanda Toduschuk piped the head table into the hall to start the festivities. The meal, catered by Gropps, included a choice of salads, lasagna or meatballs with garlic mashed potatoes, vegetables and apple or blueberry pipe for dessert.

The affair was interesting and I’m sure band members learned a lot about the tradition of Mess Dinners – the use of Mr or Ms instead of ranks to address diners, asking permission to leave the table for various reasons or else losing one’s chair and the different “punishments” or “amends” for violation of the rules. A fun and informative evening was had by all. Our host and Master of Ceremonies, Captain Sasha Sadrudin, expressed his thanks for our attendance and hopes that this will become an annual event.
