Canada Day Ceremonies – Kenora & Keewatin, Ontario – July 1, 2024
At noon on Monday, July 1, 2024, the Kenora Scottish Pipes & Drums lead the Canada Day Parade in Kenora. This year, the parade started in the parking lot next to the float planes (south end of parking area) and marched through the crowd to the kiosk where the dignitaries were waiting with cake and ice cream for the crowd. The weather was rainy and cold, so needless to say, everybody was soaked.
Following the parade along the Harbourfront, the Band re-assembled in the parking lot at Keewatin Public School for the Mather-Walls House Canada Day Strawberry Tea performance in Keewatin. Upon arriving in Keewatin, a quick check was made at the Mather-Walls House to see if the afternoon festivities were going to go ahead outside due to the cold, rainy weather. The Band was told that due to the inclement weather, all outside activities were cancelled, and the Tea would only be held indoors, so the Band had an earty dismissal that day. Several members of the St. Andrews Grade 4 Pipe Band had come down from Winnipeg to help bolster our numbers, so we still met in the Keewatin Public School parking lot and had a lunch prepared by Theresa Burns and a nice chat before the Winnipeg folks returned home. Special thanks to all who came out to play – Kenora band members, St. Andrews Band members and our own Lori Hoppe.
