Workshop – Private David Kejick DCM Armoury, Kenora, Ontario – September 30, 2023

On September 30, 2023, the Kenora Scottish Pipes and Drums held a full day Pipe Band Workshop at the Private David Kejick DCM Armoury in Kenora, Ontario. The workshop was led by Wes Sheppard. The main focus of the workshop was to help the band get ready for the 2023-2024 playing year.

The workshop was deemed a big success by all who attended and everyone is looking forward to when the next one can happen.

Wes went through the new “2/4 march set” with the pipers and then switched focus to the drummers.  He was able to help each drummer individually notice some things that they can work on, and this will help with staying on the beat and playing together.  The “2/4s” and the “4/4” tunes were used as practice tunes with the drumming. Following this, Wes went through how to start a “6/8 slow air set”.  The “3/4s” were a bit rough, but they were looked at as well.  The day flew by and the workshop went later than expected.  Everyone was getting so much out of the table practice, that there was no time to get to the big instruments.
